In 2011 ACT decided to change the approach to the Postcard Project and give member Artists the opportunity to have postcards made of their artwork. It was a project of joint benefit, as the artists receive postcards at a reduced price and Arts Council Toowoomba has retained some cards to use as fund raising. These funds are used to promote our Artists and activities in the region.

ACT created a collaborative entry for the Jazz and Jumper event at Warwick .
Six members responded to the invitation to work together on this creative project.
This was the first time that Arts Council Toowoomba entered the event and found the experience so rewarding that they will probably do it again next year.

Arts Council Toowoomba had an Extraordinary General Meeting
Monday February 21st.
While we had a preview of Artworks on Powerpoint, the artists talked about their work and answered questions. Each Artist received invitations to distribute to friends and family.
A short meeting was held to add clauses to the constitution to enable ACT to receive donations tax (deductable to the donor). Now ACT can proceed with application to ROCO for this to become operational.

Arts Council Toowoomba held the AGM October 19 at the Immunisation Rooms and elected a new committee.
The highlight of the evening was the talk by George Szerencsi complemented by his excellent slides. We enjoyed hearing about his ideas and seeing his new living environment in the countryside. The following is a summary of the talk.
George described his new studio in two large shops in the main street of Bell. He showed us his photography of sunsets, buildings, flora and fauna in the area and his work with installations of 15 ladders (inspired by Jacob’s ladder and the big questions of life and its meaning). Playing with these big ideas for his own joy led George to developing the work Escalation which was selected for the Directors Cut for the Blake Prize. George showed us images, emphasising the importance of the shadows and described how the piece was made, photographed and attached to the wall. He described how he responds to questions about whether the stairs and ladders could be seen as going down. He replied that he always sees them going up but not quite getting there.
He described how he had a submission for a 10 m x 10 m monumental sculpture in Mexico and is awaiting news on this. There is a $20 000 US first prize and if selected he will supervise construction of this large piece.
We wish George the best of luck for his submission.
