Dana McCown

Dana McCown has had a long career in artistic endeavours. Jewellery was her initial focus, but textiles became an absorbing interest. Respect for a linen tablecloth handwoven by a Swedish great aunt motivated her to attend a weaving workshop 40 years ago. Since that time, she has continued to explore the many facets of weaving, be they practical woven cloth or artistic expressions. As time passed other interests have influenced her work, such as working time spent in India. Seeing the village artisans produce such precise ikat fabrics using simple equipment inspired Dana to learn the techniques both of dyeing and ikat weaving. In addition, technology and computers have been an interest leading her to experiment with including digital imagery with her handwoven cloth.
